The town of Lyttelton, one of the first settled parts of the South Island . ( 1840 ) The early settlers then faced the prospect of carrying their belongings up and over the "bridal path" (this crosses what is now the Summit Road) and down into Canterbury Plains.

Yes there is some water in Queensland !!
I sure would like to have seen this after some rain , it was one very long way from top to bottom .

In a minor break from tradition I thought I'd include this picture of Jims rocket powered pogo stick which goes at least the speed limit , honestly officer........ Our well used photo platform !!
I just like the colour and the way the 17mm lens bends it nicely around .

In a similar theme , dry, gum trees and rocks . Aussie landscapes often have an interesting grayness to them which I think comes from the foliage which tends not to have that in-your-face greenness that we have here in NZ .
 

To me this is very "Aussie":
Dry, gum trees, termite mound although unusually in this circumstance cold.
