Anzac day

Proudly flying the flag in the back yard.
Today, April 25th is Anzac Day in New Zealand a day we remember our war dead and the sacrifices they made.
In WWI alone we lost seven percent of our men aged between 18 and 45 to a war in Europe and in total there were 55,000 casualties. Some like my grandfather caught pneumonia (as a result of the huge flu epidemic) returned to NZ and then died when my dad was five in another bout of pneumonia.
My Dad was in WWII in the Air force as a pilot and trained like so many Kiwis in the wilds of fellow commonwealth country Canada (we Kiwis feel strong links to Canadians as a result and I’m always amazed how many Canadians have been here) .

Inside the car wash

I’m not sure what they put in that car wax but it smells like bubble gum and looks like candy floss , maybe this is supposed to be a subliminal comfort to having spent NZ $11 on a car wash . (Phone camera)

Birkenhead

I took this my Motorola phone camera, they have an amazing wide angle and depth of field but are unusually let down by the way they over-compress the images when saved.
Still at this size kind of acceptable but I don’t think I’ll be printing it .

The mid summer view from my deck

12 January 2007

Christmas in Taranaki. It is summer but..........

This is Mt Taranki in summer 2006 , it should not have that white stuff !!

I took this of Jim , he likes the low angles, always tricky with an SLR.

Jim using the well known fence post stand-in for a tripod.

And the results speak for themselves

Its the Dudley Hall again .
